Understanding Slavery in War – Establishing a “blended data resource and digital research environment”. Originally proposed as a large-scale harmonisation of many datasets to be readily accessed by a non-technical but domain specialised audience, we now plan that there will be a central data “spine” which builds on the CSAC data and is based on a foundation of minimal common data structures methodologies, extending CSAC’s temporal range back to the mid-18th century. This “spine” will form the basis for multiple conflict case studies drawing on numerous sources to build a mixed quantitative and qualitative overview of the manifestation of practices analogous to slavery’ in warfare in specific geopolitical circumstances.
